The Caribbean Children Foundation

The Caribbean Children Foundation (TCCF) is a registered Canadian charity based in Ontario, Canada. This organization originated from an initiative in 2000  by a group of individuals, to raise funds for one child to obtain medical treatment in Canada. The child was critically ill  and no treatment was available in his home country. The founders of TCCF created a mandate, namely:-

TCCF has a close working relationship with The Hospital for Sick Children (HSC) in Toronto. This hospital assesses the medical conditions of the children and determines which ones have the greatest and most urgent need for assistance. Each child that TCCF agrees to help is eligible for up to $25,000 of funding from the organization. The cost of the medical procedures and treatment sometimes exceeds TCCF's limit. In these cases, TCCF works in conjunction with the Herbie Fund, a similar organization run by the HSC that helps children from across the world.

The Caribbean Children Foundation is entirely volunteer based. There are no administrative costs. This is made possible by capitalizing on the unique skills and competencies of their volunteers. For example, accounting services are donated by volunteer professional accountants, this website is hosted and maintained by tech savvy volunteers, and advertising space is donated by the local business community and Caribbean newspapers. Volunteers also plan and execute major annual events such as the Valentine Dinner and Dance, the Summer Picnic, the Anniversary Gala and the Boat Cruise. Besides donations, these are the charity's primary source of income.

Through its fundraising efforts, TCCF has raised nearly one million dollars in ten years, and has helped to save the lives of approximately fifty children from several English-speaking Caribbean countries. Representatives from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto have stated that, in terms of the number of children helped, TCCF has out-performed most other similar children’s charities.
